York CBT Centre patient information

Procedure following receipt of a referral

Once a referral for therapy has been made to the Centre you will be contacted usually within 1 to 2 working days and offered an initial assessment appointment. A referral from your GP is preferable but it is also acknowledged that some individuals may not wish to go through their doctor for various reasons. How long you wait for your appointment depends upon the demands being placed on the service at any given time and can vary.

Present waiting time

The current waiting time is -  1 week for an initial assessment

Initial Assessment

The first appointment is for assessment purposes and usually lasts one hour, although if the problem is a particularly complex one this can take longer. It gives the therapist the opportunity to find out more about the nature of your problems and from this make a decision about whether or not the CBT approach is the best one for you and if suitable, identify which type of CBT you require . It also allows you to ask any questions that you may have about the therapy. At the end of the initial assessment session the therapist is usually in a position to tell you how many sessions you will require and the cost of a course of therapy.

A note on health insurance:

If your therapy is going to be funded by a health insurance or occupational health scheme, it is important that you first get approval from and confirmation that the scheme or company is willing to fund your therapy, how many sessions they are willing to fund and the address to send the invoice to BEFORE the initial assessment appointment.

Payment

The methods of payment are by bank automated credit transfer or cheque. At the present time there are no facilities to pay by credit or debit card. Payment is made at the end of each session.

Cancellation/Non-attendance Policy

Cancellations made within 48 hours or appointments simply not attended without a good reason being given will be charged for. Please ensure that if you know for any reason you are not able to attend, that you contact us to cancel and rearrange your appointment at the earliest opportunity.
